Tesla's All-Electric Sports Car Sold Out

Inside Line reports that all one hundred all-electric Tesla Roadsters due out summer 2007, are now spoken for.

The Lotus-designed carbon-fiber-bodied Tesla Roadster made its first release on July 19 in Santa Monica. From that time, 37 buyers had placed down deposits.

The auto is packed with a lithium-ion battery pack and a 185kW (248 hp) electric motor driving the rear wheels through a clutchless 2-speed automatic transmission. According to Tesla, the Roadster goes from zero to 60 mph in about four seconds, almost like a Ferrari. The car achieves the equivalent of 135 mpg according to the company.
